Five Steps to Get Rid Of Lice

Children are the most popular victims of lice infestation. Lice can be very itchy, annoying, and irritating to the head. Their presence means terrible scratching and sleepless nights. If your child has lice on his/her head, you’d better get rid of it before it contaminates everyone at home. However, before getting rid of lice, you should know what kind of pests you are trying to eradicate.

What are lice? Lice or pediculosis capitis are parasites that can dwell on the human head and eyebrows. They have special claws that can adapt to the shape and texture of hair or fiber. These wingless parasites may only be about one to two millimeters in size but they are definitely powerful enough to make your little kids itch. Lice have been around for centuries and many people already know of its existence. Therefore, their popularity has given rise to many effective methods of getting rid of them. Here are five simple steps that you can follow to help get rid of fleas on your children’s head.

If you notice your child continuously scratching his/her head, find out why he/she is doing so. Proper assessment of lice on your child’s head is the first step. Once you see lice or nits on the head do not send him/her to school or play around with other children. Although isolation keeps your child away from fun with friends, it is a necessary thing to do in order to prevent contamination. The second step that you should take involves bringing your child to the doctor. Your physician can prescribe you with safe products for lice treatment. The most commonly prescribed products include shampoos and lotions. You can also use natural oils such as tea tree oil, and sunflower oil. Applying them over your kid’s hair and scalp can help rid off lice and nits.

The third step is by going to the parlor. There are parlors that offer special services for lice removal. Although their services can be costly but manual lice and nit removal is by far the fastest and most effective way to get rid of them. Fourth, buy a nit or lice comb. This kind of comb is specially designed to scrape lice off the head. This comb has very thin and tight bristles that can swipe lice and their nit away. You can even let your child do the combing him/herself. When using a nit comb, remember to wash it with hot water or vinegar right after using it.

The fifth and last step is cleaning your home and properly grooming your child. Lice love dirty places and dirty kids. This is why it is crucial to clean your kid’s belongings specifically his/her clothes and blankets. You should also include cleaning other rooms of the house and vacuum everything in it from top to bottom. Moreover, washing the clothes of everyone living with you is also necessary. You can effectively get rid of your child’s lice infestation by following these five simple steps.
